Varkala Overview

Varkala is a town in the south Indian state of Kerala. It’s on the Arabian Sea and known for Varkala Beach, backed by palm-covered red cliffs. Just south, Papanasam Beach is believed to have holy waters. On a nearby hill, the ancient Janardanaswamy Temple is a Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Vishnu. Farther inland, the Sivagiri Mutt monument memorializes the social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, who is buried here

It is the suburban city of Trivandrum . It is located 40 kilometres north-west of Thiruvananthapuram and 37 km south-west of Kollam. Varkala is also famous for the 2,000-year-old Janardana Swami Temple which is an important Vaishnavaite shrine in India and is often referred to as Dakshin Kashi (Benares of the South).

Varkala beach is well known for beautiful Varkala cliff. It is very pristine and beautiful beach located 4 hours from kumarcom. It is peaceful since the usual touristry activities is totally absent. The sunsets and evening is a good chance for one to visit north cliff or south cliff depending on your stay location.
