In his first televised address to the nation after the government scrapped Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi listed several benefits that Jammu and Kashmir will enjoy now and also called upon Bollywood and Tollywood to usher a new era of tourism development in the region.
He spoke about the potential of both Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh as hotspots for tourism. “Ladakh has the potential to become the biggest center of Spiritual Tourism, Adventure Tourism, and Ecotourism. Now there will be proper use of its potential and new opportunities will be created for development without discrimination,” he added.
“Whether it is the color of saffron in Jammu and Kashmir or the taste of coffee, the sweetness of apples or the succulence of apricots, Kashmiri shawls or artworks, the organic products of Ladakh or herbal medicine, it needs to be spread worldwide,” he said.
PM Modi also urged filmmakers from Bollywood, Tollywood and other regional cinema industries to invest in the region and set up studios. “J&K and Ladakh have the potential to be the biggest tourist hub. Remember, there was a time when Kashmir was the favourite destination of Bollywood filmmakers. In the future, I am confident that films, regional and global, will be filmed in J&K,” Modi said.
