The Cultural Triangle — anchored by Sigiriya, Dambulla and the ancient cities of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura — is Sri Lanka's heritage core, and it's compact enough to cover thoroughly without long transfers. Sigiriya's rock fortress in particular is one of the most striking single sites in South Asia.
