The Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India urged all citizens not to get influenced by the fake news being posted on social media and other platforms. The Ministry has responded to a fake news stating that hotels and restaurants will remain closed till October.
“This is for the information of all noteworthy citizens of India to kindly disregard a certain misinformation regarding closure of hotels/restaurants circulating on the whatsapp platform in the name of the Ministry of Tourism. The Ministry of Tourism declares this to be a fake message. Kindly note any message from the Ministry of Tourism may only be relied upon from its official social media handles,” the Ministry said in Facebook post.
The advisory also asked social media companies to initiate “awareness campaign on their platforms for the users not to upload or circulate any false news or misinformation concerning coronavirus which are likely to create panic among the public and disturb the public order and social tranquillity” The ministry has asked social media companies to promote the dissemination of authentic information related to coronavirus to the extent possible
