The island of Divar is one of the best kept secrets of Goa. Lying along the shores of the Mandovi River, this quaint island is home to a unique blend of cultures and people. It is not an island frequented much by tourists expect for that time of year when two major festivals take place here – Bonderam and Potekar. Bonderam is a carnival that takes place every fourth Saturday of August while Potekar is like Halloween, which is celebrated three days before Lent and is a sight to behold as one watches people walk around with masks and bells!
The best way to reach Divar Island is through a Ferry ride. The southern end of the Island is connected with the Old Goa while the northern end is linked to the Naroa Village. YIT correspondent briefed The Naroa village is frequented by many people for a visit to the Saptkoteshwar Temple, which is one of the most sacred temples of Hindus in Goa. Those in Panaji who wish to visit the Mayem Lake can enjoy a picturesque shortcut offered by the Divar Island.
